Competitive Cooking

The Competitive Cooking season kicks off for me this Friday.

The Master Forge and I will be having an inagural kickoff event this Friday after work. I plan on blogging about the results next week. There will be lots of photos and videos. I'm hoping to smoke em (pun intended) with an award winning recipe. Be sure to check in next week for what I hope to be an exciting blog.

On a side note, the Brother's Bryan are currently in the semi-finals at the French Open. And surprise, surprise the men's draw is Nadal(1) v Murray(4) and Feds(3) v Djoks(2).

And I hope everyone is watching the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee . J's boss's son is competing and needs all the cheering he can get!

LETS GO ROBBIE!!!

MAKI MADNESS Canadian Tour Announcement

Just wanted to let everyone know that my training tour will be making two stops in Canada this September: Toronto and Vancouver.

French Open

The French Open started on Sunday. Americans generally always do poorly at this event, Andy Roddick didn't even bother showing up this year. Marty Fish is the best the Americans' have to offer up (the #10 seed). Its only a matter of days before someone makes sushi out of him, and will end up in the Ra Maki Maddness 2012.

On a positive note, Big John Isner took the defending champ Rafa Nadal to a 5 setter, and almost pulled off one of the biggest upsets of all time. Last French Open, Nadal did not drop a single set.

And on a side note, I would like to throw my hat in the ring for the job of coaching Rob to sushi eating champion. We all know if he can outeat BalTimore Bisk, he can out eat anyone. How many wings was that again??? Anyways, I would just like to provide him with the same encouragements Bode Miller receieved at the starting gates at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turino. Anyone else remember that? (I tried to find a clip of the absurity, but no dice).

MAKI MADNESS 2012

Next March, look for me to win Ra's sushi eating competition.  My training commenced on Saturday.  The crowd was rowdy at Asahi sushi, but could not affect my extreme appetite and my stomach was tested to its absolute limits with a Kraken roll.  In the coming weeks, I'll be touring the local sushi circuit, so look for me at a Japanese restaurant near you.

Not Good Enough

Zack Britton pitches 7 innings, gives up no earned runs. Vlad gets a clutch RBI in the bottom of the 9th, tying the game and cause Mariano Rivera to blow a save. And what happens? Gonzo gives up the winning run in the 15th then plunks the next batter in the head and immediately gets tossed. (Classy) Way to go O's! There are still 13 more games against the Yanks this season, maybe they will be able to steal one. Right now; Yanks 5, Os 0.

Team Kraken

Fellow contributor "J" and I have discovered a new sport recently; Geocashing. We are currently finding cashes in the local area and leaving our calling card "Team Kraken" behind. As some of you may know the Kracken is a legendary sea beast.(See image below).

The best part of this sport is its secrecy. These cashes are all over the world, and in every day locations, but hidden from normal view. Last night was out first venture out, where we were able to find 3 cashes. In the excitement of the find, I forgot to record video footage, but that will come in the future.

The last of the night was by far the most exhilarating. We ventured out after 9pm, after Survivor of course, in search of a Geocashe that ended up being in wooded area about 40-50 feet off the road in the pitch black! We did not take flashlights, only our GPSs aka Iphones, and made the find hidden away under some brambles and shrubbery. Here is a blurry image of J opening up the secret cashe: (As you can see he was not properly attired for finding this geocashe, but when the hunt is on there is not time to change)!

We plan to continue Geocashing, and hope that some of you may join us.

Our team name come from the infamous Kraken Rum:

*Disclaimer: We do not support heavy doses of Kraken Rum before driving to Geocashe sites unless someone else is driving. We do not support drinking and driving*

**Disclaimer: Geocashe at your own risk*

Ehh hemm

so check out this article in espn by Jerry Crasnick

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=crasnick_jerry&id=6515822

essentially what he did was he read my blog post earlier in the year titled "DWI's and striking out guys" and decided he should write his own article on the issue article (wow I was way ahead of him)

glad I could help out

yours truly, the most consistent contributor,
Alex Richard Bogucki

RIP Wouter Weylandt

Wouter Weylandt died Monday during the final decent of stage 3 in the Giro d'Italia. Weylandt came off his bike during a descent near the finish of the 173km stage from Reggio Emilia to Rapallo. The fall left him unconscious with blood coming from his mouth and nose, and even though medics gave him cardiac massage at the scene, they were unsuccessful in their attempts to revive him.

Today, the fourth stage, 216km from Genova Quarto dei Mille to Livorno, will be preceded by a minute's silence. During the race all the riders will ride together at a steady pace, with the Leopard Trek team at the front. Organisers said there would be no music or festivities on the route and that the presentation ceremony would again not take place.

This death will surely give inspiration to all the Leopard Trek riders in this years cycling event. Maybe when the Shleck brother's have the clean sweep (7) at this years Tour de France they can dedicate their victory to Wouter!

(From right to left: Shleck, Shleck, DB)

I plan on dedicating the rest of my season's rides to Wouter.

RIP Wouter, you will be missed!

Competitive Eating

A few weeks ago my brother in blogging, BalTIMore Bisk, wrote about competitive eating.  I participated in an event this past Tuesday night... and won.  I had about 15 tacos and they were actually the best tacos I've ever had.  You have not had good Mexican cuisine until you've been to Andele's in Las Cruces, NM.  My recomendation: the taco platter with pork and chicken.

A State of Drepression

The Capitals are down zero to three,
Will there be any changes, George McPhee?
Another season finishing in first,
Only to have our Cup dreams crashed and burst.
The month of December, a sign to be,
A lack of offense, who's heard from Ovie?
Bruce's defensive system did not win,
Too much time spent sitting in the sin bin,
Power play, one of the worst in the league,
A disappearance from the Super Swede,
If they want to win, tonight must improve,
They need to get out of this shitty groove!
They need to avoid this major collapse,
Get up! Lets GO! C-A-P-S Caps, Caps, Caps!

Reports from the Government

It has been reported that Matt Wieters' home run against the white sox on saturday April 30th struck Osama Bin Laden in the head, rendering him unconcious for a long enough time that our US Navy Seals could catch him before he got away.

But seriously, dont want to disrespect, I was listening to the radio this morning and Mike Preston had an interesting thing to say, which sort of gave me goosebumps "well it just goes to show you, when they say they are going to get you, they will, it might take omne year or it might take ten years, but they are going to get you". Hes speaking of the special ops guys out there and our overall national defense.

The USA might do some things wrong, going into countries and asserting their ways, killing innocent people at times. I think we would all be nieve to think that we always do the right thing. But it also goes without saying that the USA did something yesterday that made millions of people all over world, not just in the USA, but in different languages and expressions, celebrate the death of one person.

The USA also does something else right, the NFL. Good picks by the Ravens hopefully. Torrey Smith during a news conference poked in on a question aimed at Jimmy Smith that I think could speak volumes. A reporter asked Jimmy Smith why he was wearing a Scarface t-shirt, so as to question his criminal background. Torrey poked in before Jimmy said anything saying "Thats a great movie".

Addressing an Issue of Great Proportions

Sports for the most part are tough. The games are rough, and why shouldnt they be in competition? Like they say, no blood-no foul, no pain-no gain. It seems like in every sport, every player pretty much understands that they run the risk of injury. Pretty much all sports are physical to some degree for God's sake. NFL players understand that they could get their head knocked off potentially (especially if you are Dustin keller and are running across the middle against the Ravens...see video). BYW, Dustin Keller returns to his feet by his own power after the hit....and he didnt complain because hes a respectable professional athlete who understands its the nature of the game.

And what about hockey? These guys fight all the time and its part of the game. They lose their teeth and it isnt a big deal. Do any of them complain about getting hurt or fouled? Nope, not really, unless you are Sidney Crosby or Mario Lemieux.

Even basketball is rough and tough, with intentional fouls, face masks, and stitches on eyes because of hard fouls (take a look at Chris Paul right now for the New Orleans Hornets if you dont believe me)

But, there seems to be one major sport which continues to not understand yet that contact is part of sport and rough play will happen so suck it up. This sport is as you all probably could guess because its so obvious is soccer. The unbelievable amount of fake injuries and dives that soccer, its culture and its players have incorporated into the legitimate context of the game has made soccer laughable and quite frankly embarassing. Im sure you all have seen your fair share of these idiots flailing around on the ground holding their face or foot, when in fact nothing is wrong with them at all, they feel just great, all in the name of trying to cheat their way to a free kick. Pathetic. Dont get me wrong, its a great sport, it has just lost my respect greatly due to these actions that the players take.

Heres an entertaining yet aggravating look at these pansies who call themselves professional athletes.

I Will be Watching on Comcast

This commercial was aired yesterday during the Flyers/Sabres game on Versus. For you who have been watching any of the playoffs on Versus this season have seen these "history will be made" commercials. But up to this point they have all been past "great moments" in the history of the NHL. For those of you who do not know, this clip is from Sundays match (one day before the commercial), where the Rangers beat the Caps 3-2, and are currently losing the series 2 games to 1 to Washington.

WTF Versus?

Maybe I'm a little pissed because it was against the Caps, but I think in all fairness I have a point. Why would a TV station that is not suppose to have any bias make a commercial using footage for a game just played Sunday entitled "history will be made." They couldn't dig up anymore Lemieux or Crosby "greatest" moments of those two DBs hoisting the cup? They have to revert to Brandon Dubinsky, and that ridiculous molesteresk mustachio? That is the best playoff moment they could come up with so far this playoffs? Give me a break! It was game 3! the Rangers are still losing! It wasn't even an overtime goal!

I hope the Caps use this commercial as motivation to go out and pummel the Rangers. And would someone (Hendricks or Erskine) please slap that mustache off Dubinsky's smug face!

Game four @MSG, Wednesday 7pm, on Comcast. Be there!

The Draft

So the NFL draft is not too far away, I believe April 28th is the date. Becauae of the whole lock out thing, we havent heard too much about it. But it still is going to happen, although the singing of the players and other things will be different due to the lockout. Im not sure really what those differences are. But anyway the Ravens pick number 26. There has been speculation as to who they will take. The different names which have popped up are Muhammad Wilkserson, DL from Temple, Cameron Heyward DE from Ohio St., Torry Smith WR from UMD, Brandon Harris CB from Miami, Jimmy Smith CB Colorado, Tyron Smith OT from USC, and Akeem Ayers LB from UCLA.

Obviously these things are kind of dumb because who knows come draft day. I dont know what direction the Ravens should go honestly. We need pash rush so a D lineman would be good, but what if Sergio Kindle is cleared to play? We clearly need a CB so maybe thats the best choice, but we also want a WR to grow up with Joe. Also, Ray wont be here too much longer so we need a LB.

Either way, Ozzie and company usually just take the best player available. My feeling is that since there are a lot of very good defensive lineman that one of those guys will be the best available player so we will take a defensive lineman.

Orioles play tonight against the struggling Twins at 7. I think baseball is baseball and patience is key. The O's will turn it around. Tillman is on the mound tonight, hopefully he can have command and really pound the strike zone.

Pitch f/x

Head over to Cubs f/x to see some cool visualizations of the Cubbies upcoming pitching match-ups. Using Pitch f/x data obtained from the MLB servers, this guy is putting together some pretty cool graphics. Check out his entry on Jason Hammel here. It's pretty cool that an Average Joe, can now put together those fancy graphics you see on ESPN.

The Circle of Baseball

Good Evening. Last night, I saw the Lion King on Broadway in New York City with my wonderful lady. It was an excellent show that put me in a great mood. A story of a little lion destined to be king and ruler of the pride lands. During the play’s intermission I was thinking to myself, “How is this story going to end?”. Will Scar become the king, starve the country and dissolve the pride lands all while Simba stays in the Jungle slurping pot worms with Timon and Pumba as they sing Hakuna Matata? Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see Simba come to his senses and claim his position as king once Scar plummeted to a terrible death. This was wonderful. This was the ending I hoped to see.

So as I left the building with a big smile on my face and I strolled down Broadway towards Time Square I was soon surrounded by Hyenas and Hyena propaganda (Yankee Fans and Yankee Apparel). Everywhere I turned I saw the Yankee Logo and it reminded me of the 5-0 lead the Orioles recently blew. That was the first tough loss of the season. I felt it was the type of game that the Orioles needed to win. And as the Orioles have dropped 3 straight, you can sense that a loss like that certainly has an effect on a team’s momentum.

Well Orioles Fans, Hakuna Matata, just let it be, no big deal, we’ve had 13 consecutive losing seasons, we’re doing better….

YOU KIDDING ME!!!! CUT THAT HAPPY HORSE MANURE OFF RIGHT NOW!!! Look into the sky, each star you see is a member of the Orioles past, Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray, Earl Weaver, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Jeff Reboulet, Boog Powell, Jim Palmer, etc. etc. They live on! Get fired up and start winning games again. Learn from that blown lead. The play at the plate on the past ball where Pie was thrown out could have been the difference maker. Does that mean Felix should have pummeled Joba to make that run count or Felix could have been a bit more alert to get to the plate a second quicker or arrive with an intensity knowing how important the run is? Absolutely!

Side Note:
The Lion King on Broadway was an amazing show. The plot behind the play and movie is one of intrique and power. The actors, actresses, and music in the play are spectacular. If you find yourself in NYC, suck it up and spend some time with some Yankee fans, and enjoy the Lion King.

For the Sweetest Drink!

It has to start somewhere, it has to start sometime, what better place then here, what better place then now!

The Caps begin their hunt for Lord Stanley's Cup tomorrow at 7:30 versus the Rangers at the Verizon Center. I sure you all remember the series from two seasons ago against the Rangers, but in case you forget, here are some of the highlights.

Alex is allowed to grow his beard again...."We have an agreement with Gillette to observe sacred traditions."

Highlights from the season:

Its Friday

...cept its not but I wish it was. Either way, check out this genius stuff.

so Tiger lost the Masters, Im pissed.

the O's lost their first series of the year, Im pissed.

On to the yankees. By the way, I hate the Yankees.

TERPS NEWS:
So the terps' star player, Jordan Williams, has entered his name into the NBA draft, but has not hired an agent. This may lead people to believe that he will not enter the draft when all is said and done. But, there have been multiple reports and rumors here in CP that he is in Las Vegas training and has not been going to class and hasnt for some time. Therefore, I am pretty confident that Jordan will not return. My only comments are damnit and dumb move.

Charl Schwartzel, The Master

Today at the 75th Masters, Charl Schwartzel earned his spot among golf legends with his two stroke victory. I had a chance to ask Charl one question after his big win:
Rob: What is the major reason for your success at Augusta today?
Charl: I drink three glasses of whole milk per day. It provides me with a much needed influx of vitamins A, C, and D along with healthy doses of calcium and protein. Plus milk yields healthier skin and hair, so I get more ladies than Tiger.
Rob: Thanks for your time Charl and congratulations!

Turn Around!!!

Turn Around! Every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all years have gone by!!!!!!

The 1997 baseball regular season ended with the O’s on top of the AL East by 2 games over the New York Yankees. The 97 Orioles finished with a record of 98-64. They went on to win the ALDS in 4 games against the Seattle Mariners and then ended up losing to the Cleveland Indians in 6 games in the ALCS. The Orioles have been drowning under 500 at the end of every season since…

The 97 team was led by manager Davey Johnson. Davey revitalized the O’s when he joined the team in 1996 and took them to the controversial ALCS series versus the Yankees. Davey was fired on November 5, 1997, the day that he received an award for the AL Manager of the Year.

4,904 Days Later…

The new Sherriff in Oriole Town, Buck Showalter, is here to clean up house and bring the O’s back to the playoffs. Prior to the start of the season if one would have predicted that Sherriff Buck was going to take this year’s O’s team to the post season then they likely would have been met with expressions similar to those directed toward Sherriff Bart when he came up to clean up Rock Ridge in Mel Brook’s Blazing Saddles.

All Success So Far
Bucky seemed to spark a fire under the teams behind last year and they ended the season with one of the best records in baseball after he took over the ship. Now in the 2011 season, Mr. Showstopper is leading a team currently tied with the best record in the league at 6-1. We will know later tonight if the O’s have the best record in baseball.

Dynamic Offense
The 1997 O’s had some interesting diverse set of contributors such as Cal Ripken Jr., Roberto Alomar, Brady Anderson, BJ Surhoff, Rafael Palmeiro, Chris Hoiles, and Jeffrey Hammonds. The 2011 team features Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis, Mark Reynolds, Luke Scott, Adam Jones, Derek Lee, Vladmir Guerrero, Matt Wieters, and JJ Hardy. Both the 1997 and 2011 team seems to have a fairly powerful and crafty set of bats.

Pitching Differences
The 1997 O’s featured big name veteran starters like Mike Mussina, Jimmy Key, and Scott Erickson. This 2011 team features Jeremy Guthrie, Matt Britton, Jake Arrieta, Chris Tillman, and Brian Matusz. The 2011 Question Mark is turning into the 2011 centerpiece. The 2011 O’s have the best ERA in the league and among the best in WHIP and quality starts. Can I get an O-yeah!!!

Their Back

Alright, we’re only 7 games into the season you say. Well the Orioles are 6-1. In the 2010 season they reached 6 wins on May 1st. Alright, you say well the pitchers are having early season success, but can they keep this pace up for the rest of the season. Well, the Orioles are led by Buck Showalter and I think he’s going to keep this fire burning.

Yanks on the Way
Alright, well you say that the O’s might have a quality team this year with some good pitching, but can they face up against the Yankees. Well, again I bring up Blazing Saddles, nobody thought that Sherriff Bart could take down the big fierce “Mongo”. ..
Mongo Goes Down

Well Sherriff Bart got the best of Mongo and Sherriff Buck will get the best of the Yanks. Yanks vs. O’s series kicks off Tuesday Night.

O-R-I-O-L-E-S Orioles Magic…
Feel it Happen.

The Worm

Thank you Dennis Rodman for reminding me that the NBA used to be a decent sport to watch.

Monday, April 4, 2011

O's are

4-0

Does

Jim Palmer, Mike Cuellar, Dave McNally, Pat Dobson

sound like?

Jeremy Guthrie, Brian Matuscz, Chris Tillman, Jake Arrieta, Zach Britton

....my optimism says maybe.

go O's

Also, Earl Weaver threw out the first pitch today for the O's. He in the winningest manager in O's history and became the O's manager at age 35. Many players who played under him say he was the hardest manager to get along with but they would never play under anyone else. Catcher and later manager for the O's, Johnny Oates has this quote. "I played for Earl for 6 years and he only said two things to me. I told Earl I was ready to play if our starting catcher wasn't able and he responded by saying "fat chance of that". Later on when I was traded to the Indians he said to me "Have fun in Cleveland".

Maybe not the most charming guy but he got it done for the O's.

Tommy Z

Many NFL players are currently looking for other forms of employment since the NFL is currently in a lockout. Bart Scott is attempting wrestling. Chad Ochocinco is attempting futbol. But the Raven's own Tom Zbikowski has decided to take up boxing. Zib has been boxing since grade school, and has an impressive amateur record of 75-15. He first turned pro once his college football at Notre Dame came to an end. He is currently 3-0, with 2TKOs in his young professional career, with his latest victory coming last weekend.

Zib is next rumored to fight at the end of April in Dallas. Go get em Zib

Im Back

Hola fellow bloggers. I am back from my trip to Puerto Rico. Yes I am mentioning that to make you feel jealous. It was wonderful. There are currently three things on my mind I would like to blog about. Here it goes:

The Masters Commercials
Has anyone seen the masters commerials this year? They used to be just Jim Nance sentimentally saying that it was a "tradition unlike any other" which was a little annoying but good enough. Well, if you havent seen the new commercials, they involve some guy speaking as if he is the course himself, like the golf course, the green grass and all, is talking to us and is inviting the greatest golfers to come and play on "himself" I guess. What the hell? Why? I think I tend to be someone who gets annoyed at commercials a lot more than others but seriously, its the Masters man. You dont have to come up with some gimmick to pump up the Masters. Its the Masters for God's sake. Just say that the Masters is going to be happening soon. Its a big enough of a deal. Its the freakin Masters. Its classic. Ok moving on....

Final Orioles Cuts
The Final cuts were made to the Orioles squad today. For a lot of us who are fans, this news comes just simply as news we may or may not be interested in. But I would like to recognize the fact that these are guys who are fighting for a job and essentially got fired. I dont want to make too big of a deal about it, but for these guys, and these minor league deals they have been working off of, they are making little money so I guess just wanted to recognize that. Whether its a sport or not, they got fired from their job. On to the last thing...

Frank Robinson

During my travels to and fro from Puerto Rico, I was able to get some solid reading in. I have been working on quite possibly the most interesting book I have ever read given to me by the one BWAL, Orioles Essentials. The book details all the things you need to know about the Orioles organization throughout the years. One thing I found to be quite fun to read was concerning Frank Robinson and the most impressive set of years the O's have ever turned in. Frank Robinson, most definitely one of the 10 best baseball players ever, was traded to the O's after the 1965 season from the Reds because the GM of the Reds claimed that Frank was "an old 30 year old and didnt have much left in him". Well, do you want to know what Frank and the O's did in 1966? They won the world series and Frank hit 49 home runs, had .316 batting average, drove in 122 runs and was named the MVP. Oh yeah, and during the 6 years that Frank was an Oriole, the O's won the AL penant 4 times and won the world series 2 times. Frank never hit less than 30 home runs and never hit below a .300 batting average. Washed up player eh? Anyway, we unfortunately traded Frank after the 1971 season, but although he played for 21 years, Frank is on record saying that he feels his career is and should be identified by the 6 years he had with the O's.

Adios

The next time you will hear from younger brother Alex will be 3 games into the O's 2011 season. LETS GO O'S!!!!!

O!!! - Orioles Magic: Pre-Opening Day Tribute to a Baltimore Legend

Well folks it’s Saturday again, a wonderful day of the week. BalTimore Bisk here, blogging live in Maryland, hometown of Cal Ripken, land of the free BIRDS, and home of the bRAVENS. Snow Showers are coming this evening, but don't let them fool you, a strong warm front is heading up the coast from Sarasota, Florida. The Boys of Summer are on their way. In preparation of the season opener I decided to give a brief tribute to Wild Bill Hagy, a Baltimorean legend.

Wild!
Any admirer of Davy Crockett, Jeremiah Johnson, William Wallace, General Maximus Decimus Meridius, Robert Bruce Grupp, or some other wild man of great fortitude would also appreciate Wild Bill Hagy. Wild Bill was a rough and ragged, big gut bulging, tank top wearing, sunglass rocking, and a straw cowboy hat blazen manly man. Cab Driver by day, Baltimore cheer roar warrior by night. He was General Wild William Hagy, leader of the roar from 34.

Humble Fan - National Fame
Hagy is said to symbolize the term "Orioles Magic" as his cheers sometimes led to comeback victories for the O's. Eventually the team recognized his enthusiasm and let him do his Orioles cheers from atop the dugout. Hagy's fame led him to meet Presidents such as Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, and to get write-ups in The New York Times. For many Orioles fans he is closely associated with the Orioles and their victory in the 1983 World Series (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Bill_Hagy)

THE TRADITION
One of Wild Bills greatest achievements was the development and passing on of a famous Baltimore Tradition. Heavily noticed at local sporting events is the emphasizing and yelling of “O” by most of the fans in attendance during the pre game singing of the National Anthem. (“Oh” , say does that star spangled banner yet wave). As noticed throughout members of my family, the pronunciation of the vowel “O” is also a stand-out aspect of the Baltimorean accent. Aside from the Baltimore O’s and the O so beautiful Baltimore O accent, "The Star-Spangled Banner" has special meaning to Baltimore historically, as it was written during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. As a patriotic song, it signifies American freedoms; including, presumably, the freedom to shout "O!" (wikipedia.org/Wild_Bill_Hagy).

The Tradition Lives On
Wild Bill departed from this world on August 20, 2007, but General Wild William Hagy’s “O” battle cry lives on. Wild Bill lives on as one of the most eccentric amazing leaders and representative of the Baltimore Professional Sports Scene. Don’t let his beer belly fool you, Wild Bill was Strictly Athletic. Let’s Go O-R-I-O-L-E-S!!! The season begins on Friday vs. the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

HECK OF A SEASON ON THE WAY FOLKS!!!

If the section on Wild Bill didn't fire you up then read over a couple statements taken from the Men's Journal coming from Orioles Manager Buck Showalter on a couple of his AL east division rivals...

On the Boston Redsox General Manager Theo Epstein...
“I’d like to see how smart Theo Epstein is with the Tampa Bay payroll. You got Carl Crawford ’cause you paid more than anyone else, and that’s what makes you smarter? That’s why I like whipping their asses: It’s great, knowing those guys with the $205 million payroll are saying, ‘How the hell are they beating us?"

On the New York Yankees Shortstop Derek Jeter...
After instilling a healthy fear of God in them, he told them to stop playing scared. Don’t give the other team that much credit: Screw the Yankees, screw the Red Sox, he said. “The first time we went to Yankee Stadium, I screamed at Derek Jeter from the dugout. Our young guys are thinking, ‘Wow, he’s screaming at Derek Jeter’ — well, he’s always jumping back from balls just off the plate. I know how many calls that team gets — and yes, he pisses me off.”

Earl Weaver
Buck Showalter is making his mark and motivating his team to victory. One of the most memorable coaches an Orioles history, Earl Weaver, also had a gift for firing his team up.

ORIOLES MAGIG!!!!
Something magic happens, everytime you go
You make the magic happen, the magic of Orioles’ Baseball!

When the game is close, and the O’s are hot
There’s a thundering roar from 34 to give it all they’ve got

And you never know who’s gonna hear the call
Every game there’s a different star
That’s the magic of Orioles’ Baseball!

Orioles Magic! Feel it happen!
Orioles Magic! Feel it happen!

O - R - I - O - L - E - S !

Magic! Magic! Magic! Magic!

Something magic happens, everytime you go
You make the magic happen, the magic of Orioles’ Baseball!

When Weaver moves and we score the runs
Nothing could be more exciting
Nothing could be more fun!

There’s a love affair between you and the team
You’re the reason we win when we win
And you know what the magic means!

Orioles Magic! Feel it happen!
Orioles Magic! Feel it happen!
Orioles Magic! Feel it happen!
Orioles Magic! Feel it happen!

O - R - I - O - L - E - S !

Magic! Magic! Magic! Magic!

Orioles Magic! Feel it happen!

Magic! Magic! Magic! Magic!

Something magic happens….

LETS GET THE MAGIC BREWING!!!

How's your bracket looking?

So I am hoping Gary Williams reads the B-W Blogway.

The Baltimore Sun just released their Winter All-Metro selections. The boys basketball player of the year is 5'6'' SOPHOMORE guard Aquille Carr from Patterson. After a solid freshman year where he averaged 25.5 points per game, Carr led the Clippers to a narrow defeat in the state championship game. His sophomore season saw him average 32 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds per game...some impressive numbers.

As you'll see from the following clip, his quickness is only matched by my fellow blogger John's monthly sprint to the mailbox in hopes that one of his beloved comics awaits him.

I think Carr would look damn good in Maryland red. So Gary, grab Keith Booth and a few sweat towels, and hightail it to Baltimore, because I want to be watching the Terps in March, not VCU and Richmond.

Round of 16

My round of 16 predictions based solely off mascot fights...

Aztecs (SDSU) beats the Huskies (UCONN)
Gators (UF) beat the Cougars (BYU)
Blue Devil (DUKE) beats the Wildcats (Arizona)
Bulldog (Butler) beats the Badgers (Wisconsin)

Tar Heel (UNC) beats the Golden Eagles (Marquette) ...I'm not really sure how a tar heel fights...
Jayhawk (Kansas) beats the Spiders (Richmond)...maybe if it was a poisonous spider
Wildcat (Kentucky) beats a Buckeye (OSU)
Seminole (FSU) beats the Rams (VCU)

Here are some mascot fights for your enjoyment

Big East Busts Again

For all of our followers out there, I'm sorry I did not post yesterday. I forgot it was Tuesday. With that being said, my blog post was going to be short this week anyways.

I am tired of listening to how great the Big East is at basketball. Many sources like ESPN claim that the Big East is the best conference in college basketball. The selection committee for the NCAA tournament was even considering giving them two #1 seeds (Pitt and Notre Dame). The fact is they received 11 bids to a 68 team tournament. That is over 16%. And how did they fair after two rounds of tournament play? Lets see...

#1 seed Pittsburgh lost 70-71 to Butler (#8)
#2 seed Notre Dame lost 57-71 to Florida State (#10)
#3 seed Syracuse lost 62-66 to Marquette (#11)
#4 seed Louisville lost 61-62 to Morehead State (#13)
#5 seed West Virginia lost 63-71 to Kentucky (#4)
#6 seed Georgetown lost 56-74 to Virgina Commonwealth University (#11)
#6 seed Cincinnati lost 58-69 to Connecticut (#3)
#6 seed St. John's lost 71-86 to Gonzaga (#11)
#9 seed Villanova lost 57-61 to George Mason (#8)

The only two teams that survived the first two rounds were #3 UConn and #11 Marquette. Sure both these teams advanced by beating a fellow Big East teams, but how would they of fared if they were to play a different conference? Would we have any Big East teams left?

Meanwhile the conference with the most teams remaining in the tournament is the ACC!. The underrated ACC only received 4 bids in the tournament, and three of them are still alive; Duke, UNC, FSU.

This is a similar trend to the past three years of the NCAA tournament. The Big East gets a lot of high seeded teams into the tournament, then bust. Meanwhile an ACC team has won the tournament the past two years, and has a very good chance of winning it again this year.

TAKE THE PLUNGE FOR THE OFFICE LUNGE

Need to get some cardio and leg-work done, but don't have enough time before or after work? Try this out: instead of walking to and from the coffee pot, bathroom, or elevator, try lunging instead! I've been doing this for the past two weeks and have never felt better (note: you may want to up your coffee intake and listen to more Gamma Binaural Beats). After one day, you may be short of breath and will possibly not be able to move your legs, but in two days you will be a lunging machine. I've actually succeeded in chasing co-workers down while lunging backwards. I'll leave you with a video of some lunging office madams (note: I prefer a longer, lower, and more streamlined approach).

Madams of Billiards

For this one, you'll have to actually visit Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yjL-JEWkCU
Enjoy the rest right here on the blogway.

March Madness Baby, Ey!

As promised, BalTimore Bisk here to give you an update of March Madness - Canadian Style.

Surprise Surprise Team Manitoba was the winning province of the gold medal match in Tim Horton’s 2011 Brier held in London, Ontario on March 13th. Team Manitoba was led by skip Jeff Stoughton. The losing province was Team Ontario led by skip Glenn Howard. In 4 of the last 6 Briers Glenn Howard has been on the losing end in the gold medal match, making him the Canadian Jim Kelly.

And you might be wondering how the man, the myth, the legend, K-Mart and team Alberta did in the Brier. Well disappointingly, the Old Bear and Alberta finished in 4th after they lost the Bronze Medal match to Team Newfoundland and Labrador. The Old Bear was even shut out of the Brier All Stars selection.

In a post-brier interview, K-mart was quoted as saying, “We played not bad, but not good, you know, mediocre, you don’t win like that. Losing, it never hurts, just makes you a little hungrier, makes you work a little harder and you get back at it”. Well with that spirit, who wouldn’t want to play billiards with the Old Bear?

Next up in the Curling world is the 2011 World Curling Championship held in Regina, Saskatchewan from April 2 to 10th

Update on Endurance Eating

BalTimore Bisk here, eating a delicious filet-o-fish sandwich, and blogging live from McDonalds!!!...

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog on the world of endurance eating. Well b-w blogway may have inspired Joe D'Amicco from Illinois. Joe is a long distance runner who is training for an upcoming marathon solely on a diet of McDonalds. Joe's response so far to his diet... "I feel really good". Hearts out to you Joe! Good luck on your endurance.
